The cert.it exam system designs and implements Italian language proficiency certification exams by non-native speakers. Italian citizens can also take the cert.it exams when they are required a document certifying their competence in the Italian language.
The certificates issued by the Italian Certification Office as L2 are recognised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and are also valid abroad.

Art.1 - Exam sessions
The annual calendar of sessions, valid for all exam venues, is established by the Office of Certification of Italian as L2 every year, by the end of the previous year.
The deadlines for submitting applications are communicated to the examination centres and published on the website (www.certificazioneitaliano.uniroma3.it).
The exams take place at the headquarters of the Certification Office located in Via Ostiense 131 / L in Rome and at the various affiliated examination centres on the dates indicated.

Art.2 - Registration
Candidates can choose whether to take the cert.it exam at the Certification Office of Italian as L2 of the University of Roma Tre or at one of the affiliated examination centres.
Candidates who choose to take the exam at one of the affiliated examination centres must apply for registration directly to the chosen Centre. The Examination Centre registers the candidate on the Student Portal and book for him the exam date. The Examination Centre also provides for collect registration fees.
Relations between the examination centre and the Certification Office are governed by a specific agreement.

Art. 3 - Cases of illness
If a candidate cannot take the exam because he is ill, presenting a medical certificate to justify his absence can register for the immediately following session, without having to pay the registration fee again. Refunds are not allowed.

Art. 4 - Description of the exams
cert.it - ​​A1: the exam consists of three sections aimed at testing language skills, to be carried out in the same session:
• Listening (understanding of short oral communication exchanges)
• Reading and Writing (understanding and production in relation to the most frequent uses of written Italian)
• Talk (short interview)
cert.it - ​​A2: the exam consists of three sections aimed at testing language skills, to be carried out in the same session:
• Listening (understanding of short oral communication exchanges)
• Reading and Writing (understanding and production in relation to the most frequent uses of written Italian)
• Talk (short interview)
cert.it - ​​B1: the exam consists of four sections aimed at testing the language skills to be carried out in the same session:
• Listening (comprehension of oral texts)
• Reading (understanding of short written texts)
• Uses of Italian (understanding the uses of Italian in everyday communication contexts and production of short and simple written texts)
• Oral production (short interview)
cert.it - ​​B2: the exam consists of four sections aimed at testing language skills:
• Listening (comprehension of oral texts)
• Reading (understanding of short written texts)
• Written production (production of short written texts for formal and informal contexts)
• Oral production (production of oral texts)
The Listening and Reading tests must necessarily be taken in the same exam session.
cert.it - ​​C1: the exam consists of five sections aimed at testing language skills, which can also be sustained individually:
• Listening (comprehension of oral texts)
• Reading (understanding of written texts)
• Written production (production of written texts)
• Uses and forms of Italian (analytical knowledge of the morphosyntactic system and uses of Italian)
• Oral production (production of oral texts)
cert.it - ​​C2: the exam consists of five sections aimed at testing language skills, which can also be sustained individually:
• Listening (comprehension of oral texts)
• Reading (understanding of written texts)
• Written production (production of written texts)
• Uses and forms of Italian (analytical knowledge of the morphosyntactic system and uses
of Italian)
• Oral production (production of oral texts)
Where all the tests relating to skills are not taken or passed, only for levels B2, C1 and C2, it is possible to keep the grade of the parts passed for one year from the passing for the level B2 and for two years for levels C1 and C2. The certificate is issued only when the candidate will have passed all parts.

Art. 5 - Examination Commission
The examination commission must be composed of at least 2 members per session up to 25 candidates e by at least 3 members per session over 25 candidates.

Art. 6 - Examinations
After registration, candidates are notified of the time of the exam. Applicants are required to arrive at the exam venue on time and with a valid identity document.
Upon delivery of the examination dossier, the candidate must verify that their name has been correctly transcribed on the answer sheet. In case of error, he must correct it in the appropriate space.
Candidates must mark their answers on the answer sheet using a blue or black pen.
The use of the pencil is prohibited. Answers written in pencil are not taken into account for the evaluation. To correct an answer, candidates must write “NO” next to the incorrect answer e fill in the box corresponding to the answer you consider correct. In case of ambiguity the answer is considered incorrect.
Dictionaries, books, mobile phones, computers is not allowed during the exam.
Candidates must behave in a appropriate manner to carrying out an exam; is it is absolutely forbidden to copy or disturb the other candidates. Furthermore, candidates cannot leave the classroom during the exam.
If a candidate has an unsuitable behaviour, the members of the examination commission can cancel the examination. The Certification Office reserves the right to cancel the exams in cases of blatant copying or other irregularities, such as evidence showing parts written with different spellings.
The tests must be carried out in compliance with the instructions provided by the Certification Office, penalty cancellation. In the event of serious irregularities, the Certification Office reserves the right to cancel the entire session of the examination centre involved.
The verification of the candidate's identity and the conditions for admission to the exam is a obligation of the head of the examination centre. The person in charge must guarantee the secrecy of the exam material both before and after the test. At the end of the session the head of examination must ensure that no copy files remain in the possession of the candidates and of the administrators.

Art. 7 - Correction and evaluation of exams
The cert.it exams are fully assessed by the proofreaders of the Certification Office. The examination centre is required to send the examination material to the Certification Office within 2 days working from the date of the test.
To pass the exam, the candidate must achieve a pass in both the writing and the oral. Sufficiency is considered achieved if the candidate provides at least 60% of correct answers.

Art. 8 - Communication of results
The communication of the results to the examination centres takes place within 40 working days of receipt of the candidates' papers.
The decision of the Certification Office is unquestionable.

Art. 9 - Delivery of certificates
The certificates are sent to the examination centre which provides for their distribution.
